PERSONALITY

Synopsis: A current man of conflict, Draco is looking for an identity post war. He was very sure of himself and his values as a child, but after seeing the true nature of his father's teachings and the cowardice of Lucius Malfoy, Draco isn't sure who to model himself after.

He still loves his mother very much. Her risk in lying to Voldemort for information on his well-being has not been forgotten. However, Draco cannot let himself become Lucius Malfoy, a parrot who expects nothing but perfection from his children but shows nothing but surrender to those he deems more powerful. Lucius' inability to defy Voldemort even to protect his own flesh and blood disgusts Draco, who had unswerving loyalty to his father before the war.

Draco does have a tortured past, literally. He was forced to do things he did not want to. He endured for survival but also for fear that if he angered Voldemort, as his father had, that their mother would be the next to pay for the mistakes of the Malfoy men. Draco is still haunted by that year in servitude and the fact that he almost took the life of one of the greatest wizards to ever live.

Now he is searching to be his own man, to build himself a reputation that he can be proud of without the help of Lucius Malfoy. He's still bitter, still likely to lash out when cornered, still arrogant, but he's learned enough humility to get by in social circles. He no longer stands up and makes an ass of himself out of his own blind pride. He sees his flaws and guards them well. He also sees what he wants and goes after it ruthlessly, with one difference, Lucius doesn't buy it for him.

Positive Traits: Clever, ambitious, logical, good with potions, bureaucratic, attractive
Negative Traits: Defensive, impulsive, prideful, wears reading glasses
Likes: Quidditch, classic poetry, wine,
Dislikes: Lucius Malfoy, beer, pop music
Talents: Quick reader, good at chess, capable flier, competent in legilimency, penmanship
Flaws: Singing, darts (or any accuracy game), pop culture

HISTORY

Family History:
Lucius Malfoy, from the well-bread Malfoy house, met Narcissa Black as part of an arrangement. She was sixteen and finishing school when they were introduced. Lucius took a liking to the beautiful girl and agreed to the arrangement. He spent that summer taking her to concerts and museums, charming her with his culture and charisma. When Narcissa returned for her seventh year she was enchanted and wrote to him every week. Directly following graduation they were married and Draco was born a year later.

Draco was the couple's only child.

Personal History: Spoiled from day one, Draco really was a "mama's boy." His mother made sure he was the best dressed, best fed, and never let him be disciplined too hard. As much as Lucius' arrogance and pressure messed the child up, his mother's mollycoddling didn't help. Draco grew up with very few boundaries except to respect his parents. He was allowed to have anything he wanted and when he took it from another child by force it was just the way a Malfoy should behave, ambitious and clever. He was rewarded.

When Draco went to Hogwarts and Harry Potter turned down his offer of friendship, Draco really had no idea what to do. He was never denied anything. The children of his father's friends had sworn allegiance to him without question. How could anyone deny him companionship? He took it personal. He targeted Harry from that moment on and didn't back down until his sixth year.

Sixth year, after Voldemort returned and Lucius had failed his master, yet again, Draco was given a task. It wasn't so much a challenge for the boy as a punishment for his father. Draco was, for the first time, faced with the reality of the party line he'd toted all his life. Draco disliked Dumbledore and his teachings but when it came to it, he was no killer. Draco lacked the conviction to follow through and from that moment on, life just got worse.

Snape taking Draco from Hogwarts only condemned him to a fate worse than death. Voldemort kept him like a pet, someone to torture, someone to force to commit atrocities, someone to dangle in front of Lucius as an example to others. He was a deterrent for failure among his ranks. Draco tried time and time again to prove himself, to earn respect and end the hell he was trapped in, but he didn't have what it too to follow through and become the evil that enslaved him.

When the war was ended and his family was pardoned for Narcissa's help, Draco stopped talking to his father. He blamed Lucius entirely for his torment, not taking any responsibility for his own inability to take a stand and leave. He was just a kid, he told himself.

He took no aid from his father, but hypocritically took assistance from his mother. Draco got his own flat and started at the bottom. The job was beneath him, but the Malfoy name was mud after the war. He was a clerk. When he proved himself clever, articulate, and ambitious, he was promoted. It only took him five years to become head of his department when the current head retired. Now Draco takes no Malfoy money at all. He's still trying as hard as he can to shrug off the mantle of the Malfoy reputation.
